JUST read the ECP’s headline (Sept 30) that legality of ballot paper can’t be questioned. Does this announcement meet the requirement of the law? The matter of May 2013 elections has been criticised all over the country, including in parliament. So, what new development or lacunae in laws has now come to educate our ECP to say what they did today?

Recently, the infamous ‘Gullu Butt’ has been released from jail. All TV channels covered the sad event in detail and the public saw what went on in Model Town, Lahore, near headquarters of Minhajul Quran where automobiles were wilfully destructed while police officers silently watched and later embraced the man for a good job done. Astonishing as the court decision seemed to be, one has to wonder if our laws and Constitution need revision or what?

Will the legal community (courts and practising lawyers) please expound on the matter and clear the atmosphere of legal uncertainty in the public?
