MARDAN: A man allegedly killed his father-in-law and mother-in-law over a woman dispute in Takhtbai tehsil of Mardan district on Saturday, police said.

Takhtbai police station SHO Kamran Khan told Dawn that the alleged killer barged into the house of the victims in Mazdoorabad area and shot dead the elderly couple after exchanging hot words with them. The slain couple hailed from Dir district, who had recently settled down in the area. The slain man was also the uncle of the suspected killer.

According to the the preliminary police investigation, the SHO said that the suspect had got married some years back, but later his wife had allegedly eloped with another person of Bashkhali locality of Mardan district.

However, the police official said that the suspect had also shot dead the person with whom his wife had eloped and injured his father a few months ago in the Bashkhali bazaar. Later, he was arrested in the murder case, but was released by court on bail.

The police official said that they had registered FIR against the accused and his brother on the complaint of the daughter-in-law of the victims, and launched efforts to arrest them.
