TAXILA: A sub-inspector of the Wah Saddar police was arrested after an under-trial robbery suspect escaped from his custody.

Usman Khan was arrested on the suspicion of involvement in a number of robbery cases in Nowshera. He was brought to the Wah Saddar police station through the KP home department for his interrogation in a number of cases.

On Tuesday, the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Zahid Khan, took the suspect to a local hospital in his personal car without any security guard after he fell ill during the interrogation.

However, the suspect escaped from his custody. Later, the police authorities ordered the registration of a case against the SI after which he was arrested.

A team, led by SHO Raja Shakeel Ahmed, was also formed to re-arrest the suspect.

It may be mentioned that the SI was on bail from the anti-corruption court as the anti-corruption establishment had booked him on August 17 for allegedly getting Rs82,000 for setting two persons free. The two men were arrested for running an illegal LPG filling shop along the G.T. Road near Muneerabad in 2013.
