ISLAMABAD: A three-month-old baby, who was abducted last week, has been recovered. The five kidnappers, including two women, were also arrested on Thursday, police said.

Mohammad Shahbaz, a resident of a Mehrabadi in Islamabad, lodged a complaint with the Golra police that he left his three-month-old baby Zubair Abbas with his nephew on July 17, when he went to a local market with his wife. He further stated that his neighbour, Asmat Bibi, tricked his nephew to go to a nearby shop and kidnapped the baby in his absence.

Later, a police team, constituted by Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ilyas, succeeded in tracing and arresting the neighbour’s son. This forced the accused to appear and led to her arrest.

During the investigation, the accused told the police that she abducted the baby for one of her relative’s daughters, who was childless and facing pressure from her in-laws. The accused confessed that the baby had been transported to Sargodha and handed over to the childless couple.

The arrest and confession of the woman forced her four accomplices, including another woman, to produce the baby and surrender to police.
