KARACHI: An assistant sub-inspector was shot dead while three policemen were wounded in an attack on a police van in Korangi on Tuesday night, the Awami Colony police said.

They added that the police mobile as per its routine was standing at Korangi-5 when armed motorcyclists attacked it and escaped, leaving four policemen wounded.

The wounded policemen were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammed Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival.

Head Constable Idrees, Constables Akbar and Imran Ali were admitted for treatment.

The targeted killings of policemen have increased in East Zone following killings of suspected militants in ‘encounters’ and arrest of suspected hit men, the officials added.
