KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead in a suspected ‘sectarian’ attack in Azizabad on Monday evening, police said.

They added that Akram Jafferi, 45, was sitting at his general store next to his home in Mohammadi Colony when gunmen on a motorcycle fired at and wounded him. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The murder appeared to be motivated by sectarianism, said Azizabad SHO Irfan Asif.

The victim was a father of two.

This was the second murder of a shopkeeper in Azizabad recently on sectarian grounds. On June 2, Sajid Ali Jafferi, 60, was gunned down at his auto-shop in Bhingoria Town by motorcycle riders.
