LAHORE: The Sunni Tehreek Ulema Board presented on Monday a 12-point peace formula to the government for security of Milad processions.
According to board chairman Ghufran Mahmood Sialvi, the board asked the government to consult Brailvi sect ulema over the security of processions and issue a new code of conduct ignoring the recent one presented by "state-sponsored clerics".
The board demanded the government take action against those producing hate material and delivering hate speeches. It rejected a proposal limiting Milad processions to walled premises and asked the government to ensure security of all processions.
The government must ban signing, drumming and participation of women without veils in Milad processions, says the peace formula. Peace committees should be formed at the police station level and the government must curtail foreign aid to militant organisations.
The government should check the posting of hate material on social media sites through strict cyber laws. Mosques and seminaries of all sects must be arms-free. Clerics must be bound to deliver speeches on Islam's teachings of brotherhood, harmony, love and peace, concluded the formula.
