ISLAMABAD, July 18: Haroon Rasheed, the son of the deceased Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, has submitted a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking contempt proceedings against two police officials who had refused to register a criminal case against former president Gen (retired) Pervez Musharraf.

The two police officials are the station house officer (SHO) of Aabpara police station and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Yaseen Farooq.

On July 12, 2013, IHC’s Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi had heard Mr Rasheed’s original petition (filed in June 2013) seeking registration of FIR against Musharraf for launching the military operation in the Red Mosque in 2007. During the operation, 103 people, including Mr Rasheed’s father and grandmother, had died.

The judge had disposed of the petition ordering the SHO concerned to record Mr Rasheed’s version and register an FIR against Musharraf without delay.

Tariq Asad, the petitioner’s counsel, stated that Haroon Rasheed had submitted his written statement before the SHO for the registration of FIR against Gen Pervez Musharraf in accordance with the law.

However, according to the counsel, the SHO had refused to comply stating that he had submitted the court orders and Mr Rasheed’s version before the SSP (operations) for approval. The approval had still not been granted, the counsel added.

Mr Rasheed said the SHO and the SSP had deliberately declined to obey the court orders and had hence committed contempt of court.

He requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the respondents SHO Niazi and SSP Farooq.
