KARACHI, Feb 15: A detained army officer has been charged with inciting fellow officers to launch a rebellion against the government.

According to BBC Urdu website, Brigadier Ali Khan, head of the regulations wing at the General Headquarters, was arrested four days after Al Qaeda Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2 last year in a raid by special US forces in Abbottabad.

He was being interrogated for links with outlawed Hizb-ut-Tehrir and was facing court martial.

According to a charge-sheet issued with the signature of a senior army officer in Sialkot, Brig Khan has been accused of inciting Brigadier Amir Riaz of the Triple-One Brigade Group, Brigadier Mohammad Amin of the Air Defence Command and Brigadier Naeem Sadiq of the Defence Export Promotion Organisation to rebel against the government.

The second allegation relates to his links with Hizb-ut-Tehrir.

According to it, from 2008 to 2011 Brig Khan had admitted his links with the banned organisation on different occasions and with different people.

He has also been accused of planning an attack on the GHQ and let loose violence there.

Brig Ali Khan may face death sentence if the allegations against him are proved.

According to the charge-sheet, court martial proceedings against Brig Khan will be held in his army unit in Sialkot.
