LOS ANGELES: American actor Danny DeVito, known for his Emmy-winning role on “Taxi” and his turn as Batman's nemesis The Penguin on the big screen, was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The 66-year-old actor, who divides his time between films and television and is also an acclaimed director, received the 2,445th star on the famous sidewalk in Los Angeles.

“The question is, do I get to take this home or do we leave it here?” joked DeVito of his star.

“Or do I move into this store over here, and every day I come and polish it?” he added.

It is tradition for the honoree to be the first person to step on the star, and DeVito - who has been posting pictures of his so-called 'Troll Foot' on Twitter - took off his shoe and sock before stepping barefoot on the star.

Born in November 1944 in New Jersey, DeVito has over the years nurtured a flourishing film and television career with roles in the series “Taxi,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,” “Batman Returns” and “L.A. Confidential.”

He has also found success behind the camera, notably for directing “The War of the Roses” and “Throw Momma From the Train.”

DeVito is married to the actress Rhea Perlman, who attended Thursday's ceremony along with the couple's three children.
