TMO held for taking bribe

ATTOCK, June 16: An anti-corruption team on Thursday arrested Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Jand in a surprise raid on the charges of taking bribe from a TMA employee for release of his salary bills.

Circle Officer Anti-Corruption Department Amjad Shehzad informed Dawn that an employee of Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Jand, Zaigham Abbass had filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Department that TMO Malik Sadik was allegedly demanding Rs15,000 as bribe for release of his pending salary bills. He said that he along with his team conducted a surprise raid under the supervision of judicial magistrate and arrested the TMO after the recovery of marked currency notes of Rs15,000 from his possession, which he had received from the complainant just before the raid. The Anti-Corruption Department registered a case against TMO Mr Sadik and further investigation was underway, he said. — Correspondent

FBR lower staff goes on strike

ISLAMABAD, June 16: Over 23,000 employees of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) all over the country went on strike on Thursday for acceptance of their charter of demands submitted to the management six months back.

These employees from grade-1 to 15, comprising naib qasid, clerical staff and inspectors, will continue their strike till June 20. And if the FBR management failed to accept their demands, their union will give a call to lock the offices countrywide, said Chaudhry Rahman Ali Tarrar, the general secretary of Federal Revenue Alliance Employees Union.

He regretted that after the passage of six months, the demands remained unfulfilled. The management kept the employees union engaged in dialogue for two months but failed to come out with a solution, he added. He asked the FBR management to resolve their genuine problems by June 20, so that the unrest that was continuing among the employees could come to an end. — Our Reporter

Wine, arms recovered

ISLAMABAD, June 16: Over the last two weeks, Tarnol police have arrested 18 accused, including four women, and recovered wine, narcotics and arms from them.

A police spokesman on Thursday said the accused have been arrested as special checking was carried out in different areas of Tarnol.

He said the arrests led to recovery of 200 litres of wine, 17.53 kg hashish and 640 grams heroine. Besides, seven 30-bore pistols along with 93 cartridges were also recovered from them. — Staff Reporter

15 prisoners released

ATTOCK, June 16: As many as 15 under trial prisoners involved in petty crimes were released from the district jail on Thursday.

A press release said that the prisoners were released on the orders of Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Anwar Ahmed Khan during his visit to the district jail. He also directed the respective courts for the early disposal of their cases and asked the released prisoners not to indulge in the crimes again. Later, the additional district sessions judge also visited different jail departments including hospital, kitchen and women cell and inquired the jail inmates about their problems and complaints. On a request of an ailing prisoner, the judge also directed the jail administration to provide him proper medical treatment at the district headquarters hospital. — Correspondent

Man killed over old enmity

ATTOCK, June 16: A man was killed and his grandson was seriously injured by their rival over an old enmity in Mitayal village of Basal Police Station.

The sources said that Mohammad Sadiq reported to the police that his relative Mohammad Siddique was allegedly attacked by his rival Mohammad Khalid on Wednesday evening. As a result, he died on the spot while his 12-year-old grandson Sheryar sustained serious injuries.

On information, the police reached the scene and shifted the body and injured to the THQ hospital, Jand. Later, the body was handed over to the relatives after postmortem. The police registered a case against the accused. — Correspondent
