Cartoons

Published February 26, 2017

THIS is with reference to the two cartoons ( Feb 23 and24) published by you against the Army . This has deeply hurt those of us whose sons and comrades have died in the defence of Pakistan and the battle against the “Terrorism”.

Whether or not it was so intended, it was an ugly attempt to tarnish the image of the army.

Please also refer to my letter ‘Harsh on the army’ (July 10,2011). I reproduce a few sentences: “As for terrorism let me make it clear it is not going to be eliminated by the use of force alone. Our council of Islamic Ideology, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs, relevant departments of provincial government and sections of civil society have to make positive contribution “

Here I am not talking of the role of electronic media whose contribution in eliminating this menace needs to be accelerated. We certainly need extensive judicial reforms.

Lastly please note that the Pakistan Army Act is a constitutional document and all punishments are awarded in accordance with the provisions of Pakistan Penal Code. It is the decision of the government of Pakistan and not a requirement of the army to have military courts.
