RAHIM YAR KHAN: A camel fight was organised by some influential political figures in violation of ban at Chak Veeha near Abadpur area, about 47 kilometres from Rahim Yar Khan, on Wednesday.

Earlier, the illegal event was scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Katcha area of Rajanpur but the deputy commissioner and the district police officer did not give permission.

Sources said some people in connivance with officials of the district administration and police arranged the camel fight for a ruling party MPA and around 3,000 people witnessed it after paying Rs500 per head entry fee.

WWF district coordinator Abu Bakar, when contacted, said his organisation had always taken keen interest in saving animals but it’s the government’s duty to prevent animal fight or any other such illegal activity.

The deputy commissioner and senior police functionaries expressed their ignorance about any such activity. The DC said he had not allowed the camel fight and would take action if anyone has violated law.
