ALEPPO: People in Syria celebrated Eidul Azha in relative peace after an internally backed ceasefire for Syria came into effect Monday as part of a hard-fought deal to bring an end to the war between rebels and regime fighters.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported minor violations by both government and rebel forces in different parts of the country, but no deaths.
The lull in violence was a rare respite for residents of the war-ravaged country, where more than half the population has been displaced and hundreds of thousands live under siege. The Syrian conflict has killed more than 300,000 people since March 2011.
