PESHAWAR: An indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed across Mohmand Agency on Monday as security forces stepped up operations in the restive region.

At around 2am on Monday morning, security forces ordered residents to stay home indefinitely via loudspeakers, before launching an operation against militants.

Meanwhile, troops have intensified patrolling across the agency.

According to the political administration, the measures have been taken after two separate attacks in the agency which left nine security officials dead.

The curfew will remain imposed from 7am to 7pm during which all education institutes and markets will remain closed.

Five militants were killed as another attack on a security checkpost was repulsed in Karapa. The girls' wing of a new government school in Tiarza was also bombed.

Mohmand is one of Pakistan’s seven tribal agencies near the Afghan border where the military has been battling Al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants for over a decade.
