KARACHI: The second edition of the K-Electric Lyari U-16 League kicked off at the Peoples Sports Complex here on Friday with this edition being held in collaboration with the ‘I am Karachi’ campaign.

The purpose of the event is to help children from the violence-hit area of the city to a better future through football.

Disclosing the details about the event, KE sports head Zabe Khan said this year’s event will be bigger and better than last year.

“This year, we’ve seen a lot of interest from the youngsters of the area in the league,” he told Dawn on Friday. “We hope that we’ll see some good youngsters come through the league and go on to become stars of the future.”

Once again the event will see 12 teams compete but this year the teams, instead of being named according to the districts of Lyari, will be named after the footballing legends the area has produced.
