MAJU to be upgraded

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel on Wednesday passed the bill for upgrading Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) to the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST).

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training met at Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Sihala, with Gulzar Ahmed Khan in the chair.

The administration of MAJU told the committee members that they wanted to upgrade the institution and name it CUST. During the course of the meeting, MNA Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhatti asked the administration what the status of the current students would be when the university becomes CUST.

The HEC representatives told the committee that credit hours completed by students will be transferred to CUST as is done when students change universities. Following agreement of the participants of the meeting over the various departments, the proposed university would have, the bill was approved. The meeting was also attended by MNA Amra Khan, Ms Musart Rafique, MNA Muhammad Rehan Hashmi and Dr Nikhat Shakeel Khan and others.
