LAHORE: A charity organisation has completed renovation of East Medical Ward (female) of Mayo Hospital at a cost of Rs50 million.

It is the third project of the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation (BSF).

An inaugural ceremony of the ward was organised at the auditorium of the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) on Saturday. BSF Patron-in-Chief Ms Bilqees, Farhan Sarwar, Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Health Director General of Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz, KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Faisal Masood, head of the East Medical Ward Prof Dr Irshad Hussain, Prof Dr Asad Aslam Khan and a large number of student doctors attended the ceremony.

Mr Rafique said the Foundation was helping patients as well as the government in sharing financial burden to help ailing people visiting the public hospitals. He said the BSF had also provided a state-of-the-art ICU at the department.

Mr Sarwar said that besides all the beds for the patients, furniture, biomedical equipment including new Echocardiography machines, the Foundation had also installed air conditioning unit at the East Medical Ward.

He announced that the Bilqees Foundation was ready to upgrade more wards of teaching hospitals.

“We are also going to donate 50 dialysis machines immediately for the dialysis unit,” he said, adding the BSF was officially launched in 2010 with the inauguration of Bilqees Sarwar Free Hospital in Lahore.

“The BSF Free Hospital has so far served 500,000 people and treating up to 12,000 patients per month,” he said.

Dr Pervaiz said that the Sarwar family had completed many patient welfare projects at Mayo Hospital and the government was ready to give it more space at public health facilities.
