ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to decide the fate of educational and healthcare institutions, which following the devolution of the ministries, are being controlled by various ministries and divisions.

Sources in the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), which oversees 422 educational institutions along with two hospitals in the federal capital, told Dawn that a committee headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar would take a final decision about the administrative control of these institutions on Friday.

A senior official of CADD added that a cabinet committee, led by Minister for Planning and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, had recommended that all educational and health institutions should be given under the administrative control of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Ministry of Health Services, respectively.

On Friday, he added, the committee led by Ishaq Dar after deliberating over the recommendations of the cabinet committee would take a final decision. “Yes, the committee will discuss the issue of shifting the FDE and health institutions,” said Khalid Hanif, the secretary CADD.

Meanwhile, a source at the education ministry said currently 18 educational institutions such as the FDE, National Book Foundation, which were earlier part of Education Ministry, are being looked after by various ministries.
