LAHORE: Top professional M Shabbir finally occupied top position after posting a fine card of four-under-par-68 on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Golf Championships at the Lahore Gymkhana course here on Saturday.

Shabbir from Islamabad with a two-day aggregate score of 138, six-under-par, is the sole leader who developed a lead of three strokes over his nearest rivals Safdar Khan (Gujranwala) and Talib Hussain (Islamabad).

Taking off from tee no. 1 in the morning, Shabbir birdied holes 3, 5, 7, 8 and 11. These five birdies were supplemented by 12 regulation pars.

The other heralded golfer is Safdar Khan with scores of 72 and 69 and an aggregate of 141 while another contender at 141 is Talib.

Other notable ones are M.Tahir the overnight leader at 144 along with Imdad Hussin also at 144 while Matloob Ahmed is at 145 followed by Talat Ijaz and Nisar Hussain at 146 with Shahid Javed Khan being at a two rounds score of 147.

In the amateurs event, Ghazanfar Mehmood of Bahria Town Golf Club leads the gross section with a score of gross 146 for two days, compiled through a round of 72 on the first day and 74 on the second day. Following him are Peshawar’s Taimur Khan with rounds of 74 and 77 and aggregate score 151 while Wazir Ali (Gymkhana) stands at 154, Robin Bagh (Sargodah) at 155 and Abbas Ali Khan (Gymkhana) at 156.
