LAHORE: Syed Sheharyar Ali was elected as the president of Punjab Netball Association while Mian Asim Bashir was elected as the new chairman in the elective General Council Meeting of PNA held here on Saturday at Treet Corporation offices.

The elections were held under the supervision of Pakistan Netball Federation represented by secretary Mudassar Arain while the Punjab Olympic Association representatives also attended the meeting.

Shehryar belongs to a high-profile family of sports, is the son of Shahid Ali — the IOC member in Pakistan — and grandson of Syed Wajid Ali Shah (late) who was the founder of the Olympic Movement in Pakistan.

The general body also approved a number of key decisions including the secretary general’s report for the year 2013-14, audited accounts statement for the year 2013-14, activities plan for 2014-15, expected budget for 2014-15, organisation of 14th National Women Net­ball Championship 2015 and Punjab Netball Champi­onship 2015 (men & women) at Lahore, Netball Develo­pment Program 2015 and coaching courses for 2015.

The newly-elected office bearers are: Syed Sheharyar Ali (president), Mian Asim Bashir (chairman), Mian Moham­mad Afzal (SVP),

President Sheharyar Ali, in his speech on the occasion, said that he will make his utmost efforts for the promotion of netball in the province as well as in the country.
