ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam on Wednesday said that Pakistan condemns Israeli aggression and supports the international community’s efforts in bringing about a cessation of unilateral Israeli strikes killing Palestinians, including women and children.

“Pakistan is deeply concerned over the recent escalation of violence and loss of lives in Gaza and has consistently supported the Palestinian cause, especially the two-state solution which paves the way for a viable, geographically contiguous Palestinian state, created on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,” she added.

The FO spokeswoman also said that Pakistan supports a peaceful democratic transition of power in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Aslam said Pakistan extended all possible support for holding peaceful presidential elections in the neighbouring country.

Aslam said Pakistan took several measures to enhance vigilance and security along the border during the first and second rounds of elections on April 5 and June 14 respectively.

The spokeswoman said Pakistan has also constantly emphasised that it would respect the democratic choice of the Afghan people.

Aslam expressed the hope that all issues relating to preliminary results would be resolved through dialogue within the framework of Afghanistan's Constitution and laws.

She said a peaceful, stable, unified and prosperous Afghanistan is vital for regional peace and stability.
