PESHAWAR, Aug 23: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has stated that the success of Awami National Party in Peshawar was because of a conflict between the PTI workers and an inquiry to this effect will be ordered at party level.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Pervez Khattak said that the success of PTI in rest of the constituencies was a sign of trust the public repose in the party and its leadership, adding that PTI had achieved brilliant success in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad while it would gain victory in Tank district as well, where polls were postponed due to security reasons.

He stated that the success of ANP in NA-1 Peshawar was because of the mutual conflict of the party workers. “The present provincial government has set a record and example for the first time in the history by not interfering in the elections,” he said, adding that the provincial government had played an important role in holding by-elections in a transparent, fair and peaceful manner.

The chief minister stated that they had ensured maximum participation of women in the elections. He was of the view that there was always a difference between general elections and by-elections in terms of turnout. He said that the popularity graph of PTI had not fallen rather it had increased as it won National Assembly seats in Nowshera, Sawabi and Lakki Marwat.

Regarding the upcoming local government elections, Mr Khattak said that efforts were being made to conduct the LG polls through electronic voting system to make it completely fair and transparent. — Bureau Report
