Iraq and Iran agree on 40 daily flights by Iranian airlines to and from Najaf

The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office announced an agreement under which Iranian airlines, excluding Mahan Air, will operate 40 flights per day from and to Najaf International Airport, IRNA reports.

According to Iraq’s official news agency, the agreement was reached following the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office’s follow-ups with the relevant parties.

The flights are aimed at facilitating the movement of passengers and pilgrims and supporting humanitarian, medical, tourism, and educational aspects, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office said.

Yemen hunger crisis could become 'absolutely devastating': UN

The hunger crisis in Yemen threatens to become “absolutely devastating” as renewed fighting grips the country, the UN’s World Food Programme warned, reports AFP.

The WFP said that unless the international community stepped up its efforts to help, the outlook was bleak.

“Hunger in Yemen today is accelerating before our eyes,” said Matthew Hollingworth, WFP’s assistant executive director for programme operations.

“We are scaling up as the WFP, but we’re doing so with very limited resources and access to areas that we need to get into,” he said, warning that the crisis could compound “far beyond” Yemen’s borders.

Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the world and remains gripped by a vast humanitarian crisis.

US President Donald Trump’s senior national security officials gathered on Friday at Camp David for closed-door discussions on the Iran war and the Saudi-Houthi conflict in Yemen, Axios reports.

Citing three American officials, Axios said Vice President JD Vance presided over the undisclosed meeting, which ran for hours. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, special envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA chief John Ratcliffe and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine also took part.

One official said issues were settled or discussed at length.

G7 agrees deal to ease global energy supply concerns

G7 countries agreed to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil to ease global energy supply concerns, as President Donald Trump hailed the decision and said the US would not impose a threatened diesel export ban, reports AFP.

The announcement came following a video conference of G7 leaders chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron after Washington stepped up pressure on Europe to release strategic reserves and threatened a diesel export ban.

The talks, convened by Macron after a conversation with Trump, focused on coordinating a response to soaring fuel prices among the other G7 economies of Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.

Oil tankers attacked in Hormuz strait: UK maritime agency

Two oil tankers have been struck by “unidentified projectiles” in the Strait of Hormuz region, a British maritime agency said Friday, in the latest threat to shipping in the waterway, Reuters reports.

The Hormuz passage, through which a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG passed before the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in late February and sparked the Middle East war, remains at the heart of the conflict.

Tehran has been blocking the passage of commercial ships, firing on vessels it accuses of unauthorised crossings.

Washington responded with a counterblockade of Iranian ports in an effort to prevent Tehran from exporting its oil.

Washington says military action against Iran proves ‘unmatched technological prowess’, backs warfare study

The US Secretary of War has directed the Pentagon’s chief technology officer to commission a study of future battlefields and the weapons and technology needed to dominate them, Al Jazeera reports citing a Pentagon memo published on X, which says US operations in Iran “showcased not only the skill and bravery of our warfighters, but also our unmatched technological prowess”.

The memo orders Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael to set up ‘Project Meridian: The Future of Warfare’ through a partner organisation.

‘Meridian’ will identify the capabilities US forces need and propose solutions for developing, testing and fielding them.

IEA's Birol says oil prices starting to fall after reserve release decision

Oil prices have started to fall after a decision to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel reserves, Reuters reports citing remarks by International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol.

“We took a step today on diesel. We held a meeting with world leaders and announced that we would start releasing 100 million barrels of oil again,” Birol says at a press meeting in Istanbul. “Prices are starting to fall.

Bahrain strongly condemns attack on Madina power distribution centre

Bahrain has strongly condemned an alleged attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on an electricity distribution station in Madina, terming it a flagrant violation of the “sanctity of Islamic holy sites and an assault on the sentiments of Muslims around the world”, Al Jazeera reports.

G7 to release 100m barrels of oil over 4 months, France's Macron announces

Following a meeting of the G7, French President Emannuel Macron says the group will work together to reduce the prices of petroleum products — particularly diesel — and has agreed to release 100 million barrels within four months, in coordination with partners and the International Energy Agency.
