Iran's defence equipment 2.5 times higher than before war: defence ministry spokesperson

Iranian defense ministry spokesperson, Reza Talaei-Nik, says any US or Israeli aggression against Iran will face a firm response, stressing the country’s readiness to counter threats, IRNA reports.

Talaei-Nik said the resistance and national power were key to completing “the enemy’s defeat and safeguarding Iran’s rights”.

He also said domestic production of weapons and defence equipment had reached 2.5 times its level before the recent war, up from double the pre-war level announced three months earlier.

The increase was attributed to the capacity of knowledge-based companies and Iran’s defence industries, with production of some weapons rising more than threefold through private-sector participation.

Talaei-Nik warned that any renewed miscalculation by Iran’s adversaries would be met by more advanced weapons and equipment and a heavier response from the armed forces.

Iran drone plot fears led US to remove bombers from UK base, US officials say

A suspected plot involving Iran to launch a complex drone attack on a key British airbase led the United States to remove its B-1 bomber aircraft from the base, two US officials told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Iran has denied any involvement in any alleged plot at RAF Fairford, the preferred European base for US bombers. British police said they had arrested a 22-year-old British man in London on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts as part of their investigation into the suspected plot.

A spokesperson for the US military’s European Command declined to comment, saying: “It is inappropriate to discuss matters of intelligence, and we will not discuss specific force protection measures.

“As demonstrated across multiple operations, America’s bombers, including B-1s, B-2s, and B-52s can deliver precision global strike capabilities including through operations that launch and recover from the continental United States anywhere, anytime,” the spokesperson said.

US EIA hikes oil price forecasts again as Iran war drains global stockpile

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) raised its oil price forecast for this year and next year, as global stockpiles fall rapidly and diesel markets remain tight due to the ongoing Iran war, Reuters reports.

Global benchmark Brent crude is now expected to average about $98 a barrel in 2026, up 8 per cent from the EIA’s previous forecast, the agency said in its Short-Term Energy Outlook.

Oil and fuel prices have risen dramatically due to the US-Israeli war on Iran, which in turn has disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about 20pc of global oil supplies before the war.

The White House has pushed back after Democrats accused President Donald Trump of suggesting Iran should “take out” the major US cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, AFP reports.

Viral footage showed comments by Trump at a midterm elections rally in Nebraska on Monday, where he said high oil prices from the Iran war were justified by the need to stop Tehran getting nuclear weapons.

The White House insisted Trump was talking about the threat posed by Iran, branding it a “media freakout” that was “not rooted in reality.”

“He was clearly stating US cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn’t been stopped,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said on X.

Chinese independent refiners boost Iraqi oil purchases as Iranian flows fall, traders say

Chinese independent refiners have stepped up purchases of crude from Iraq and Qatar for October and November delivery to replace dwindling Iranian supplies, as exports from other Gulf producers through the Strait of Hormuz recover, traders said, Reuters reports.

Strong demand for non-sanctioned Gulf crude from private refiners has helped support the market after supply disruptions linked to the US-Israeli war with Iran.

Chinese refiners bought at least 12 million barrels of Iraqi and Qatari crude from trading houses Mercuria, Totsa and Trafigura, according to three traders close to the deals. One estimated total purchases at 15 million to 20 million barrels.

UN chief hails Pakistan's 'pivotal role' in US-Iran conflict, calls for 'return to diplomacy'

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday lauded Pakistan’s “pivotal role” in mediating between the United States and Iran as he called on the parties to end the conflict and return to diplomacy.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, he said: “Pakistan’s spirit of engagement is front and centre on issues of international peace and security.

“I salute Pakistan’s leadership for helping to create the conditions for dialogue between the US and Iran and mediating that conflict. Your efforts helped deliver the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, the subsequent ceasefire and the framework for future negotiations. Every Pakistani should be proud of that pivotal role,” he said.

“And from Islamabad, I want to send a loud and clear message to all parties: end the conflict, return to diplomacy and restore navigational rights in accordance with international law. There will never be peace in the region until the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people is recognised, as Pakistan has long championed,” he said.
