Iran preparing 'grand' funeral for slain supreme leader: state TV

Iranian authorities are laying the groundwork for a “grand” funeral for slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, official media reports according to AFP, following a lengthy postponement due to Iran’s war with the United States and Israel.

Though the timing was still uncertain, “a special headquarters has been formed to prepare for the funeral ceremony, and various agencies are currently planning and making arrangements”, state TV reported, citing Mohsen Mahmoudi, head of the Tehran Coordination Council for Islamic Propaganda.

An event paying tribute to Khamenei was organised in April, but a state funeral that was initially announced could not be held because of the war.

State TV, citing Mahmoudi, said “different organisations are working to provide the necessary conditions so that, once officially announced, a ‘grand’ ceremony can be held”, adding “widespread attendance” was expected.

Pakistan firmly committed to stance on Palestine, Israel: Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday that Pakistan remained firmly committed to its longstanding position on Palestine and Gaza and that there could be no change in Islamabad’s stance towards Israel without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

In his response to the question, Dar also said he had reiterated Pakistan’s position during his engagements at the United Nations earlier this week.

IEA, IMF, World Bank, WTO meet to discuss Iran war impact

The heads of the International Energy Agency, International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group and the World Trade Organisation met yesterday to discuss their institutions’ response to the impacts of the war in the Middle East, they have said in a joint statement today according to Reuters.

“If shipping flows do not return to normal, continued rapid depletion of global oil inventories ahead of peak summer oil demand in the Northern Hemisphere would present increasing risks for fuel security, market conditions, and broader economic resilience,” the institutions said, referring to the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

The institutions also explored options to “further enhance collective support through multilateral and bilateral actions”, it added.

Iran's Baqaei responds to Trump post, says US naval blockade illegal from the beginning

Al Jazeera reports that Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has responded to Trump’s claim that the US would lift its naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, saying this would put an end to what was an illegal action from the beginning.

“We need to see whether in practice they will actually follow through on their words or if it’s merely a propaganda claim,” he said.

Baqaei added that, since the waterway is located in Iranian and Omani territorial waters, the two countries must “adopt a mechanism” that protects their safety and national interests, while enabling international trade.

Iran sources tell Fars news agency Trump comments on deal 'mixture of truth, lies'

Iran’s Fars news agency has cited “informed sources” as saying the latest comments by US President Donald Trump about a potential deal to end the Middle East war were a “mixture of truth and lies”, Reuters has reported.

“Trump claimed that Iran was obligated to open the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, even though no such clause appears in the next of the agreement,” the agency said.

On Trump’s assertion that Washington and Tehran would coordinate on destroying Iran’s enriched uranium, it added: “Well-informed sources emphasised that not only does this not appear in the memorandum of understanding, but this claim is fundamentally baseless. “
