Virat Kohli hit 49 runs off 51 balls as India beat Pakistan by five wickets in an Asia Cup match on Saturday where both rivals endured dramatic batting collapses.
In a sublime spell of fast bowling Mohammad Amir reduced India to 8-3 before Kohli guided his team to overhaul Pakistan's atrocious 83 with almost five overs left.
Yuvraj Singh was unbeaten on 14, combining a 68-run partnership with Kohli for the fourth wicket.
Earlier, India fast bowler Hardik Pandya returned his career best 3-8. Left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed 2-11 while fast bowlers Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah and left arm spinner Yuvraj Singh chipped in with one wicket apiece for India.
Only two Pakistan batsmen could reach double digits in its lowest total against India. Sarfraz Khan scored 25 while Khurram Manzoor added 10, with extras contributing 15. India won the toss and opted to bowl, exploiting the reckless batting of Pakistan on a seaming track.
Two needless runouts, Manzoor and Shahid Afridi (2), didn't help on a dire day for Pakistan's batting. Chasing a seemingly easy target, India had a desperate start after Amir's double blow in the first over, trapping Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane , both leg-before and without scoring.
Amir then removed Suresh Raina for a single in another fuller length delivery to leave India at 8-3. Kohli showed his class against the four-man hostile bowling attack with support from Yuvraj Singh who appeared uncomfortable but somehow managed to keep his wicket intact.
With eight required to win, fast bowler Mohammad Sami (2-16) broke the partnership by removing Kohli after he clobbered seven fours in his match-winning innings.
Sami then claimed Hardik Pandya (0) but captain MS Dhoni, with 7 not out, smashed a cover-drive boundary in the next over off Wahab Riaz for India's victory.

I am a hardcore India fan, but at this moment its very pathetic to see the state of Pakistan playing in such a way. Pakistan cricket has fallen steeply from the elegance and majestic cricket played at the time of Imran Khan, Waseem Akram, Inzamam. I am sure there are many talents in Pakistan who can play better cricket but still waiting to get a chance. We always want to see a good fight with India and Pakistan - bored to see such onesided performances.

I must say part of the blame lays of the so called experts sitting at the baba g channel. They give impartial advice and have promoted the culture of hit hit hit and tulla cricket. On this type of green top wicket you need batsman that are technically correct and have the temperament to build an innings.
With out misbah and younis Pakistan and with these bits and bobs player Pakistan will struggle playing even 20 overs.
Shoaib malik came in to international cricket from domestic as a specialistic bowler and it makes me wonder how we can play him as a top order batsman.

Batting limitations under pressure brutally exposed by India who not only bowled but also fielded superbly today. A shambolic display. run outs on top of horrible batting. just cannot take pressure against India. Bangladesh (who have beaten us recently in ODIs) must fancy their chances against us. Forget India, even Bangla batsmen bat with more fluency, aggression and confidence these days. should be cake walk for India, a massive win by 9 or 10 wickets. With this team, we will never be able to beat Indians since we are psychologically defeated plus they are a much better ODI/T20 side than us.

Wow, just wow. What a quality spell by Aamir, what a talent loss for Pakistan for five plus years. Even Sami was impressive. In the end, a score of 130 may have been a bit of ask for India given that they finished within 15.3 overs.
Also, Kohli got a decision in his favor from the Lankan umpire, the ball may have just hit on top of the bails.
But the pitch matters too, had this been less of a green track, all advantage would have been for India.

I had earlier said on this forum that Pakistan will bundle out for 100 on this wicket if they bat under lights but today they were dismissed under 100 batting first which was strange.
People will say Kohli as world class batsman or Aamir as world class bowler, but to me Ravindra Jadeja is the man of match.
He may not be classical batsman or bowler, but an excellent top class fielder who can be selected in the team purely only on basis of fielding. On top of that he can get 15-20 quick runs and bowl 4 overs.
This is the first time when India has selected a player purely as fielder.
The way he inflicted 2 run outs was excellent. He can be next Jonty Rhodes.

India were the better team throughout
Bowling: we restricted them to a paltry 83 without a single bowler who bowls over 140kmph let alone someone like Amir, on this wicket our spinners took as many wickets as the seam bowlers!
Fielding: The number of boundaries stopped and the number of half chances created the two run outs were exceptional, this team is as good dare I say better than Australia/South Africa/England on their best day in the field
Batting: There is always someone we can rely on be it Kohli (a class act) in this case or someone else in another match e.g. Rohit in the prior match and our batting runs deep till Ashwin.
So Pakistan lost to a better team on all accounts bowling, fielding and batting!!

@Zak The problem is Afridi is a shade of himself and his body language is not helping his team. you have a couple of bright sports in Amir and Srfaraz..the rest are basically a burden. Dhoni on the other side has seen enough adversity and is calm and collected all the time and demands the best from his players. Pakistan needs to move away from Afridi before World T20 is my humble opinion. Make Sarfaraz the captain and get on with it. Afridi should consider retirement if he continues to fail and looks for others to lift his team up.

Well i admire the spell of aamir but we should not treat him the best yet since the pitch condition was heavily in favour of swing bowling he need to do a lot to be with the ranks of wasim and kapil.pakistanis have made mistake by making wahab wasim akram because of one spell of his against one perticular bastsman on the day and now we all know he is a more than a mediocre bowler.but on that pitch kohli innings was great he is a great batsman no comparison with any other batsman of asia.don't forget all the bowlers bowled well from india on this wicket as well so credit must goes to kohli for outstanding knock under pressure and seaming condition.
No hate for pak but the suggestion look for sarjeel psl found for pak.

1. Take a bow Aamir. Rest of the Pakistani bowling looked mediocre. Wahab truly disappointed me. On a bowling track with a grass if this is how he was bowling, then imagine the carnage he will receive on flat pitches.
2. Aamir was the best, but Kohli was better than the best. Kohli showed why he is one of the best batsmen in the World right now.
3. Yuvi, Wahab, Afridi should sit at home now. Yuvi would get few more chances because of his bowling. Still Manish Pandey would be a better choice.
4. I have never seen such poor Umpiring in last 15 years. They looked so out of place today. Imagine if Kohli was wrongly given out earlier in his innings. Usually one counts wrong decisions by Umpires, but today it was easier to count right decisions by them.
5. Henceforth think twice before calling Indian pace attack mediocre.

I am really happy for Indian batting today. India Pakistan encounter has always been India's batting vs Pakistan's bowling. Indian batting proved better on flat pitches and turning pitches. I am truly glad today when Indian batting proved to be better than Pakistani pace attack on a bouncy pitch with grass on it which was a nightmare for any batsman. Kudos to team India, well played Aamir.

Lots of respect from India. Amir and Wahab on full form can be a real handful to any opposition. Unfortunately it was just Amir who stepped up the game and utilized the conditions well. 120 would have been a real interesting chase.

It show the mettle the current Indian team. Much has been said about batting and fielding but seldom do we talk about the fielding unit which in modern day is amongst the best.
On other hand Pakistan was ordinary on filed. Some of them seemed overweight and were fielding with greased palms.
A good fielding side will help to save vital runs in t20 game at crucial juncture which could be a match winner.

I genuinely think that Pakistan's bowling line up is overrated and overhyped. Yes, Mohammed Amir is a fantastic bowler but there is no one else to support him on other end. I have been saying this for long time now that Pakistan is too reliant on individuals to win them games. They only play as a unit when an individual performs for them and fires up the team. Indian bowlers don't have pace like Pakistani seamers but they hunt in packs. Nehra, Bumrah, Pandya bowl around 140kph but maintain tight control. Indians are way more superior in their fielding and save at least 20 runs with bonus run outs. Batting line up has amazing depth till 9th player. Pakistani batsmen lack class and don't have any alternate plan in case if they lose quick wickets. Running between the wickets is extremely poor. Afridi's captaincy is mediocre at the best unlike Dhoni who is an exceptional captain and human being. The biggest difference between two sides is ability to handle pressure.

Pakistanis are good cricketers. But when they come up against India they are more scared than Indians and they loose their wits first then guts and of course the game inevitably.

Folks, nothing to despair. Pakistan can still win the next game. Afridi is still a great player, and he can change the game single handedly because he is a multi-dimensional player. Rohit may not get out in the next match in the first over. Overall, it was a good game, nothing to rue over. No one is the champ here!
