An Islamabad sessions court convicted on Thursday Zahir Zakir Jaffer for the murder of Noor Mukadam and sentenced him to death. Two members of Zahir's household staff were sentenced to 10 years in jail, while all others, including Zahir's parents and TherapyWorks employees, were acquitted. Social media is filled with joy that justice has prevailed and many people, including Pakistan's celebrities, have posted about the sense of relief they feel.

Actor Adnan Siddiqui took to Twitter to laud the verdict. "Death for the monster’s diabolical act deservedly so. My heart goes out to Noor’s family," he wrote, hoping the verdict brings "an iota of peace to them".

TV show host and actor Samina Peerzada also shared a few words on how she feels now that Zahir has been convicted. "Justice has been served for now but a long way to go. I’m hopeful that our Judiciary, our Police and our people will make Pakistan safe for our Girls," she wrote.

Actor Zara Noor Abbas tweeted that the verdict "restored" her faith in the judicial system of Pakistan.

Actors Mahira Khan and Mawra Hocane also tweeted with the hashtag #JusticeforNoor.

Actor and friend of Noor, Osman Khalid Butt wrote that though he knows there will be an appeal and that Zahir's parents have been acquitted, he is still happy about the verdict.

Actor Ushna Shah said she will only celebrate once the sentence is carried out. "If I held someone hostage & killed them, & my middle-class mother was aware of this the entire time & aided me… she’d hang too (or at least spend her life in prison). Just saying."

Model and actor Nadia Hussain called the verdict "fantastic news".

Actor Zhalay Sarhadi took to Instagram to say that though she has "always been against capital punishment", this was a much awaited sentence.

Actors Minal Khan and Hajra Amin re-shared the breaking news and captioned it "Alhamdulilah".

Other stars including Farhan Saeed, Ali Rehman Khan, Ali Kazmi, Alyzeh Gabol and Nouman Javaid also shared the news on their Instagram stories with hashtag for Noor.

Noor's father Shaukat Mukadam hailed the court's verdict and thanked the media for keeping the matter "alive". "An exemplary punishment has been given to the primary accused," he said while speaking to the media outside the court. He termed the verdict as a "victory" for the court and justice.

The rich parents enabled their son and hold some responsibility for the crime and full responsibility for the cover up. For them to go free, but their paid servants go to jail for ten years, is a travesty of justice. Court did no favour by deciding Zahir as guilty. There was way too much proof to do otherwise.

@NoVoice paid servants physically apprehended her and prevented her escape and didn't protect her when they knew she was being murdered. Parents most likely lied a lot and were given benefit of doubt since they were on phone but not there physically.

His mental health problems are obvious on the face of it. Such people cannot be executed under international law.
