Gladiators brutally defeat United by 43 runs

Islamabad United saw a miserable defeat at the hands of Quetta Gladiators who won the match with a whopping margin of 43 runs on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi stadium.

Quetta Gladiators innings

United won the toss, leaving the Gladiators to set the match total. With Ahmed Shehzad's 73 off 46 balls, the side managed to put up a decent target of 181 runs.

Rossouw scored 23 off 17 whereas Umar Akmal added 27 runs off 17 balls to the total.

United's Faheem Ashraf emerged as the innings' top wicket taker, with four to his name. having yielded only 18 runs in the three overs he bowled.

Ahmed Butt took three wickets, and Zafar Gohar and Samit Patel took one apiece.

Islamabad United innings

United slowly crawled towards the target throughout the match and went crashing after the fall of Shane Watson's wicket in the 15th over. He tried his best to see the side through to a victory with a knock of 64 runs off 43 balls with seven 4s and three 6s in the mix.

Delport was the only other notable scorer, having put up 25 runs off 27 balls.

After his departure, Salt only lasted three more balls and was out having contributed only two runs. His replacement Asif Ali faced two balls and was out for a duck at 9.3 overs.

Samit Patel added 14 runs, Rizwan Khan added seven, Faheem Ashraf added two, Shadab Khan added eight, while Amad Butt was also out for a duck.

In the end, Zafar Gohar and Mohammad Sami added nine runs and one run respectively but the side came nowhere close to the total and was out for 137 at the end of the full duration of 20 overs.

The Gladiators' Fawad Ahmed and Mohammad Hasnain took 3 and 2 wickets each to give United a tough time. Sohail Tanvir took two, while Bravo and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket each.
