This campaign raising awareness about animal cruelty by asking few questions

Animals are poached, sold and trained for 'entertainment'. #AreYouNotEntertained?

A recent campaign titled #AreYouNotEntertained is trying to spark a conversation about animal cruelty in the name of entertainment.

A lot of people do not realise that animal dancing is not funny or adorable, because they are not aware of the all that goes behind the scenes.

The campaign is using visuals and videos to share stories of how some animals are often starved and trained in pitiable conditions just for the sake of entertainment.

Most of these wild animals spend their entire lives in captivity and it’s the fear of pain and punishment that drives them to learn dance moves being taught by trainers.

Performing animals like bears and monkeys are snatched away from their mothers shortly after birth and then sold into the exotic pet trade, designated for dancing.

Tiny bear cubs, for example, have their muzzles pierced and a rope is passed through it – the owners can then control their movements and make them dance.

Since bears are wild animals, owners sometimes smash the bear’s teeth with a rusty hammer, leaving their mouths with open wounds that attract maggots. The bears are also beaten and starved into submission so they quickly learn to obey instead of attacking or hurting the owner.

On the other hand, owners of young, helpless monkeys extract their teeth and mutilate their genitals to tame them. The feeble monkeys are then starved and beaten up while they are trained to dance.

It’s the fear of being beaten up with sticks and the constant tugging of the ropes that make these monkeys perform for their audience.

While steps should be taken to curb this illegal trade of animals in Pakistan in its entirety, it is also important to create awareness and raise your voice against this cruelty and that's what this campaign is trying to achieve.
