Spirit of Math (SoM), Canada’s premier and largest after-school math program for high-performing students, recently invited prominent educationists, key decision makers from the education industry, and private school owners in Pakistan to a focus group discussion.

Dr Murad Raas, Minister for Education in Punjab, was the chief guest at the event.

Nathan Langen, Director of Business Development for Spirit of Math, announced the launch of World Mathematical Olympiad (WMO) in Pakistan during the event.

This will be a nationwide talent hunt for students great at mathematical and analytical skills to compete in a global math challenge.

For the past three years, Spirit of Math has been selecting and training Team Canada that has won medals repeatedly in this global math competition.

This time, one team from Pakistan will be selected and trained by Spirit of Math to attend the final in Thailand.

The event was focused on the present and future of math education in Pakistan. Kimberley Langen, CEO and co-founder of Spirit of Math, spoke about the role of innovation and imagination as drivers for development of students into the leaders of tomorrow’s Pakistan.

Spirit of Math will also be introducing math contests to students of grades 1 to 4, as well as exploring the possibilities of teachers' training in schools across the province.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Raas said he would like to see Spirit of Math grow from four campuses to 4,000 campuses in Punjab.
