Nation solemnly remembers the heroes and martyrs of 1965 war

The day began with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

Defence Day of Pakistan marking the 52nd anniversary of the 1965 war is being celebrated with traditional fervour and solemnity across the country on Wednesday.

The day began with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, followed by the change of guards ceremonies at the mausoleums of Allama Iqbal in Lahore and Quaid-i-Azam in Karachi, and a ceremony at the Pakistan Navy headquarters in Islamabad.

A smartly attired contingent of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) cadets assumed the responsibility of security during an impressive ceremony with Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Imran Khalid as the chief guest on the occasion.

Meanwhile, all the formations and units of the Lahore Garrison also observed Defence Day with solemnity and remembrance and paid tributes to the martyrs of 1965 war.

Corps Commander Lahore General Sadiq Ali visited Ravi Siphon near Batapur and laid floral wreath on the monument of 1965 War's martyrs.

The highlight of the day will be a function tonight at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to pay tribute to the martyrs.
