Nation solemnly remembers the heroes and martyrs of 1965 war

Defence Day of Pakistan marking the 52nd anniversary of the 1965 war is being celebrated with traditional fervour and solemnity across the country on Wednesday.

The day began with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, followed by the change of guards ceremonies at the mausoleums of Allama Iqbal in Lahore and Quaid-i-Azam in Karachi, and a ceremony at the Pakistan Navy headquarters in Islamabad.

A smartly attired contingent of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) cadets assumed the responsibility of security during an impressive ceremony with Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Imran Khalid as the chief guest on the occasion.

Meanwhile, all the formations and units of the Lahore Garrison also observed Defence Day with solemnity and remembrance and paid tributes to the martyrs of 1965 war.

Corps Commander Lahore General Sadiq Ali visited Ravi Siphon near Batapur and laid floral wreath on the monument of 1965 War's martyrs.

The highlight of the day will be a function tonight at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Excellent pics, such civilian and army interactions will definitely boost the country's faith on the armed forces. It is said that a war has no winners, because every war comes at a price, and that price is paid by the war torn families through out their lives. India and Pakistan had fought 4 wars and still no peace is achieved, nor the mission of these wars has been fully accomplished. The aftermath of such conflicts have never been peace, but instead it resulted in a baseless arms race and unnecessary stockpiling of such weapons which no one would ever dare to use. While the families who lost their near and dear ones in these wars have already moved on and hold no grudge against each other, and instead pray for peace so that no lives would be lost in future. But thanks to the spineless leaders of India and Pakistan who feel pride in war mongering.

@ARUNA T KUMAR ..... People don't want to face the truth that Ayub Khan was the worst general Pakistan ever had. He thought Jammu and Kashmir would rise up and he could fight a war with India on the cheap. He sent the Pak army on a suicide mission.

Congratulations to Pak. 1965 war achieved all its objectives. Operation Grandslam and Operation Gibraltar, both are modern day military case studies. What is there not to celebrate? Party on.
