Winners write the history in any war and since there was no winner in 1965, we have two histories of what happened. In truth 1965 war is the start of downfall in relationship between the two countries....before 1965 there was trade, there was travel (almost 10,000 people traveled from India to Lahore everyday for a 5 day match, something unthinkable today), there was cricket, while partition trauma was in the back of the mind people were moving on. This war killed peace and also ensured that a large % of both the nations remain poor, uneducated and underfed. What did those who started this war get - NOTHING - Shame on them who started this war!

The war was heading for a stalemate, with both nations holding territory of the other. The Indian army suffered 3,000 battlefield deaths, while Pakistan suffered 3,800. The Indian army was in possession of 758.9 miles² (1,920 km²) of Pakistani territory and the Pakistan army held 210 mile² (550 km²) of Indian territory.[39] The territory occupied by India was mainly in the fertile Sialkot, Lahore and Kashmir sectors,[40][41] while Pakistani land gains were primarily south in deserts opposite to Sindh and in Chumb sector near Kashmir in north.[42] [[SOURCE : WIKI]]

So what was the objective of this War? Is there peace? Has Pakistan got Kashmir? Is Kashmir Independent? Battles hasn't changed the demography for past 67 years & it can not change for next 100 years. Why not sit across the table with a mug of Beer & say "Cheers". Forget the past & move on to some thing acceptable to both India & Pakistan?

During war the first casualty is truth. Neither Pakistan nor India would ever tell the exact truth about the result of day to day action in the war. If any body is sober and neutral he will find 1000 weaknesses in the account given above. For example number of Indian Killed and made prisoner are almost matching the total casualty and arrest. If lies are the norms than what is war history and how trhe army of two country learn the lesson.

Being such a big country with second largest army in the world has not won a single war against Pakistan. Pakistan has big part of Kashmir taken from India in 1947, India agreed to ceasefire in 1965 war (victorious don't agree on ceasefire) Only India knows Pakistan won the Kargil War. India lost 1962 war against China. Indian army was thrown out of Sri Lanka. But they have won all the wars in Indian movies.

One of the most far reaching consequences of the war was the wide-scale economic slowdown in Pakistan.[136][137] The cost of the 1965 war put an end to the impressive period economic growth Pakistan had experienced during the early 1960s. According to veterns of the war, the war had greatly cost Pakistan economically, politically, and militarily..

Pakistan captured more territory than India did. A five times bigger army lost ten times more soldiers. Hindustan Times confirmed 95 Indian aplanes lost in those 17 days, however they claim about 20 planes were lost in accidents, may be the accident was an encounter with a PAF plane.

Indians despite being 10 times larger in number still struggle to hold their own. They barely managed in 1965. The one war they won and are proud off (The only war Indians have ever won, remember the drubbing at the hands of the Chinese), was due to the fact that the Pakistani Army was miles from West Pakistan, and completely surrounded.
Fact of the matter is, Indian army is relatively strong on paper, but is a paper tiger on the battlefield. Against smaller foes they can only fight to a draw, and against equally sized foes they flop completely.

I think we should spend our energies on promoting peace and better future rather than glorifying an isolated event (true or exaggerated) of a war in 1965.
The fact is that Bhutto, the foreign minister was removed from the cabinet for reported misjudgment in advising President Ayyub to attack India.
Reality is that military used this wasteful expedition as an excuse to mold Pakistani mind on a path of perennial violence against their neighbors. Military then had free hand in replacing the democratic institutions with its own administration thereby consuming lion's share of country's resources on self interest through 3 military take overs. All promoting terrorism as country's vice.
It's high time to change this mindset of militancy and focusing on peaceful existence with neighbors.
Pakistani citizens must be tired of wars and violence and deserve a chance to a life in safety and peace.

We based our invasion on the following three premises
a) widespread support would be available within Occupied Kashmir.
b) India would restrict its offensive to the Azad Kashmir territory
c) there was no possibility of India crossing the international border
All three were wrong. No support for our invasion from the local population happened. It may be because of the '48 memory when the 'tribals' instead of completing their task of 'liberating' Kashmir from the Raja ended up looting the people.
When Indian forces found a lot of pressure in J&K they simply opened a new front across the International border to relieve it.
Because of that our whole scheme failed and President Ayub Khan became history.

Stories of bravery are on both sides.. I must say we have right to celebrate the bravery irrespective of win or loss in war.
Just for clarification, In 1965 war no side gets anything. What we won in field was lost in talks. Pakistan failed to succeed in its objectives it has for 1965 war, India failed to negotiate on table after war.
