Celebrities have the fortune and misfortune of being in the limelight at all times — the latter because it often leads to the public overanalysing their words and actions in an attempt to interpret it to suit themselves. We saw a classic case of that when singer Asim Azhar tweeted about respecting art and fans tried to connect it to Ali Azmat’s recent (and rather disrespectful) remarks about Madam Noor Jehan.

The tweet was a very simple line that could mean nothing and everything. Many people saw it as condemnation of comments passed by Junoon singer Ali Azmat where he’d called Malika-e-Tarannum Madam Noor Jehan a “kofta” (meatball), and said that as a young man, he’d rather have accepted the MTV culture than Pakistani music culture that majorly featured her.

People misinterpreted Azhar's tweet as censure of Azmat and began claiming that he had taken a stand against him, defending Noor Jehan.

The Pyaar Kahaani lead took to Instagram to clarify that wasn't what he meant at all.

He shared a post by a page that claimed his tweet had underlying connotations and slammed it with a “fake news” sticker.

Azhar said he’d just posted something good for his followers to follow — nothing else. It wasn't directed at anyone, he said, especially not a senior he respects.

The singer requested the media to "stop misusing his words for views". He later deleted the post but re-shared a news post with the caption “Yes. Thank You.”.

While the public would appreciate celebrities standing up for Madam Noor Jehan, who is a national icon, it is not right to twist people's words to assign your own meanings. It’s okay to have theories but it's better to verify statements before assigning hidden meanings to things celebrities say. It is in bad taste to assign opinions and twist someone's words to fit a certain narrative because it sounds good.

Not everything a celebrity posts is a dig at someone. Sometimes celebrities just want to share a motivational quote about respecting art and that's okay.

What a shrewd person. Tweeted something to test the waters. Then realized selfishly that his own career is more important and backed off. Played like PTI.

If you don't have courage to stand by your words then its best not to tweet in the first place.
