Anarkali again? A sequel is in the works 56 years after the original's release

Mughal-e-Azam’s Anarkali may finally return to the silver screen in Anarkali Ki Wapsi

After fifty-six years to the release of K. Asif’s Mughal-E-Azam, there are finally talks of a sequel.

According to Times of India, Farah Ahmed, wife of late producer-director Sultan Ahmed, who had assisted K. Asif on the now classic, is working on the tentatively titled Anarkali ki Wapsi.

"We had attempted a few films, including a remake of our own production 'Ganga Ki Saugandh', but it didn't materialise." Farah confirms, "The script of 'Anarkali Ki Wapasi' was developed immediately after the release of 'Mughal-E-Azam'. My husband had initiated the work on this concept in 1971, after launching his banner. It was his dream project. We will modify the script to make it relevant for the current audience."

Mughal-E-Azam was based on the Imtiaz Ali Taj’s Urdu play Anarkali starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala.

Fulfilling a dream will surely cause delight to the one who dreamed of creating it again! The film makers should go out on a talent hunt to find the similar faces like that of Mughal-e-Azam. Only a few roles should be offered to the veteran actors. The audience sentiments are woven in the charismatic actors, dialogues, cinematography - And Yes! they will expect the same cinema savvy! Good Luck Artists!

They shouldn't touch Mughal e Azam. If need be or if they have a script in mind, it should not be advertised as a sequel to Mughal e Azam but a new film titled Anarkali ki wapsi. When they are going to modify the script to make it relevant for the current audience and take other actors then there is no new need to make it as sequel. It can be new period film as simple as that. People have expectations with sequels and comparing any movie with a classic would be unfair for both the films.

I think some new face from Pakistan may be good for Anarkali's role. I must say that Deepika's Mastani was quite close to Anarkali.

Every generation has good actors. Madhubala was good in her time. There are plenty of new girls who can do justice to that role.

@Cheesey That's a dumb question. The actress that will be selected will have a big challenge no doubt. However, you need to have someone for today's audience. So it will avoid any mimicking of Madhubala. Dialog of the film will have to adapt to today's audience as well. So any "Urdu shairy" type dialog will also bore the younger crowd. The film may not be that successful. Best of luck to film makers on this project. Javs

Don't even try. K. Asif, Naushad, and Madhubala ( the most beautiful woman to walk on this earth). Do not destroy our dreams.
