Always feel proud of our organized and smart Armed forces. Pakistan's survival is in our Armed forces survival and vice versa. Our political leaders have a history of leaving the country for their personal benefit. Our army stays in all time with us.

The question is why it was not checked at the initial stage? Who is responsible for giving a soft hand to the extremists ? Now after the operation is over, lets pledge and take corrective action so that it does not happen again in future.

The amount of damage done to property is horrendous. I hope that the army/government will pay for the rebuilding of all the destroyed property on top of developing infrastructure like paved roads.

You are an asset of Pakistan and one of the best professional army of the world. Please also destroy the mind set who used the local tribal people to go for jehad. That mindset exists because of Mullahs who are running big madrassahs in big cities. This is also the same mind that mixes politics with religion. Please destroy them too. Pakistan Army Jawans are the most professional people to be found anywhere in the world. The only reason Pakistan is not another Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan is because of the strength, commitment and compassion of the Pak army. Needed a zarb-e-azb against the feudal lords, jagirdars, and corrupt political mafias also. Needed an inside out and across the board cleaning in the country.

I do feel bad for the general public but I don't think we had any other way to get rid of this huge problem. I hope and prey that we don't have to do this over and over every few years. It is very strange that people will still commend and admire their Army for taking back their territory. Was Waziristan NOT part of Pakistan when the militants captured it? where was the Army at that time? where was the Army when Taliban took over several districts of swat? Is that a failure or success? What about Mohamand Agency, Bajuar Agency, Kurram Agency, Baluchistan..who is controlling those areas. Pakistan Army is a total failure. Can you name any country like, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Burma, China who's Army doesn't have full control over its geographical Area? They consume the highest budget in terms of GDP in the whole region. They have absolutely failed in guarding our borders. All they know is to ask someone to fight for them be it any Lashkar!!!

Very appreciative of the photos of the wash-up of the operation in Miramshah but equally disappointed in the very poor, repetitive captions. So much more of the story could have been told in addressing what was in those pictures. Please, a little more effort in making the captions more interesting and informative. (Just encouragement to do better from an old jurno.)

Heart warming pics to see army jawans in control. But worrying part are the empty bazars and destroyed homes. The real operation will begin after the army leaves. The incumbent Nawaz government has to support rehabilitation and ensure good law and order. Otherwise, all this effort by Pak Army will go in vain.

Inspiring pictures. Very re assuring ! We need to keep the momentum going. Permanent presence of the Army in the main garrison forts with Frontier Corps guarding the main picquets along the main Bannu- Miramshah - Razmak Highway would be necessitated after having fully cleansed the area of all the TTP elements and their sympathisers. Then should commence the phase of all round development ie infrastructure , civic amenities, educational institutions, industrial units and a clean and helpful government machinery to achieve a merger of this region in KPK. I have this dream and only hope to see its fruition before passing on to the next world!

@Sheraz Damage to property is inevitable in these operations. Just Google images for Berlin in 1945. Then Google images for Berlin of today. See the difference. By contrast Miramshah will be easier to re-construct. Cities and buildings can be regenerated again. For now its more important to sanitise the area of these snakes that we have been allowing to grow.

@Akram Ahmad ...Army is not designed to protect cities from internal and hidden threats, Police and other Civil Armed forces are supposed to do that...Army is tasked to protect the country's borders....When situation gets out of hand only then Army is used.....These terrorists didn't arrive one day...this has been happening for last 25 years...these people are now living among locals, married among locals...It is not that easy to uproot and differentiate them....

Well done, in such a short time, Pakistan Army's brave and courageous soldiers. However, it seems from the figures given by ISPR, thus far, most of the Taliban and al-Qaeda have melted away into Afghanistan or other cities and this is merely a battle won, the war against terrorism is likely to continue for some years to come. May Allah protect all against the potential backlash esp. the ordinary civilians of Pakistan. I also agree with one of the commentators that the captions are repetitive and do not do justice to the photos, but thanks to Dawn for publishing these photos.

@Syed baqar ahsan Absolutely correct. Army has suffered, people and IDPs have suffered. A system needs to be devised to stop the repeat of the previous mistakes.

It is good, but I am sorry to say that it is too little too late, all the terrorist's leadership is well and alive in Afghanistan. They ran away way before this operation, our leadership couldn't make any decision at that time when the time was right. now only thing our troops are doing is to make sure the area is free from lad mines and booby traps, no big leader of Taliban was killed or captured. I am not blaming Pakistan Army, I am blaming civilian leadership.

@Shahzad. The difference between 1971 and now is Public Opinion. Then it was our army put into that position by our politicians against overwhelming popular hostility. Now the army enjoys support of the public.

Pak army may be successfully clean up in NW, but remember most of those bad guys cut hair, clean shaved and moved to the other parts of Pakistan an Afghanistan. They will regroup themselves and emerge with a different name and leadership. This is do or die situation for all Pakistanis, they need to look after each other and their country.

Military operations are not the permanent solution to any issue. Basically military operations provide buffer for political process to chip in. Somehow, it has been found missing in the past. This operation is also not the permanent solution. Now it is upto the able politicians, that we have, to play their role. @Shahzad get your facts right. Do you know what odds were we fighting against? Do you know some units kept on fighting long after the surrender.

@Shahzad were you there? Being part of history and reading history are two different things. Think about the difference in both situations and then comment.

There is nothing great in all this destruction. All this is due to following unwise policies in the past. I hope we don't repeat the same mistakes in future. And fighting is not something one should be proud of, it should be an option of last resort. Lets hope we also deal with the repercussions of these wars effectively.

Here is a huge opportunity, after the operation is over Pak army should stay gaurd the border and Pak establishment should build modern infrastructure, new schools, collages, markets, housing colonies in a planned manner. After all the local people have suffered and lost their homes, it is the duty of the establishment to provide them better shelter, the time operation is over.

@Shahzad This is not 1971. Soldiers of that era are no longer in military service. Even top generals of Pak army joined up after 1971. If you think Pakistan is destined for another surrender then you live in a fool's paradise.
