LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif and brother Shahbaz claimed victory in general elections of Pakistan, announcing that the elder Sharif would stake claim for prime ministership.
His claim comes as PML-N is set to emerge as the biggest party but still short of a clear majority.

Speaking to their supporters outside their model town residence Nawaz Sharif thanked the nation for reposing trust in him.
The PML-N chief has so far won two National Assembly seats - NA-120 Lahore, NA-68 Sargodha.
Nawaz Sharif has remained prime minister two times in 1990 and 1997 but both of his government wre prematurely dismissed, once by then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan and then his second government was ousted in 1999 in a military coup by former military ruler Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf.

Allegations and counter-allegations of rigging, an eleventh-hour boycott by a ten-party alliance candidate against MQM, mismanagement inside polling stations, closure of a polling station in NA-220 city, and the presence of ‘outsiders’ in female polling stations were some highlights of the election in Hyderbad and its surrounding areas.
Apparently, polling remained by and large peaceful in Hyderabad and Matiari, barring two separate firing incidents in which one person was injured in unit-8 Latifabad at an election camp.
There were violations of ECP’s code of conduct too. For instance, no election camp was to be established or transport to be provided to voters. But these violations of these two rules were quite visible. At some places such camps were seen within 400 yards of a polling station. Voters were also brought to polling stations in rickshaws and cars provided by candidates’ supporters.

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) central president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi wins the National Assembly seat NA-48 in Islamabad. A former stalwart of PML-N, Hashmi had recently joined Imran Khan's PTI.
His switch to PTI was not the only time Hashmi made a dramatic political move. In his book ‘Haan main baghi hoon’, the veteran politician, who was once part of Ziaul Haq’s government, says he considers his support for the former military ruler the only mistake of his entire political career.
But Hashmi’s truly anti-establishment credentials became evident much after Zia’s days were over – the book in which he mentions his mistake was itself written in prison. He was jailed by Pervez Musharraf in a much-publicised case of treason and was released in August 2007 on the Supreme Court’s orders. After emerging victorious in the 2008 general election, he was one of just a few who refused to take oath under the former military ruler.
