@rahul1 Like re-electing PPP and NS (for the third time)? None was able to deliver on the promises, and yet people keep voting the same corrupt lot over and over again! Some people will never learn from their past mistakes - either the politicians or the people who vote for them.

I feel bad that I was among 64 people. There is nothing worthwhile to remember about Zia.

During the Zia regime there were 5000 political prisoners and during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto the scion of freedom there were 55000 political prisoners. Who is the bigger dictator. Buying power was also greater than anytime in history. Let's all be honest about facts without prejudices as that's the only way we can work together for a better Pakistan.

I came in 6/10. Quiz wizard said I am Zia Savvy. I was a boy in 80s. My honest opinion is that his era of Pakisan was far better then Pakistan of today. I think he was a good ruler.

What I learnt from this quiz was that, he was genuinely good guy but it is inherent in the dictatorship to make mistake. One cannot be expert of everything and is more vulnerable to make mistakes even if he/she is sincere to his/her country. Good job Dawn for this quiz. No more military rule and no more dictatorship.

Everybody keep criticizing Zia but please tell me what have we achieved from 1988 onwards? What did Nawaz; Benazir, Zardari gave us. Today every new born in our country is in debt... Democracy only gave corruption; looting common man's money; putting their own interest first; protocol system; etc... We as a Nation has not progressed! I scored 70-79% but I truly believe that we have not moved forward! We are still taking dictations from US till date! Tragic days for Pakistan!!! The fruits we are now reaping were sowed during Zia's era. the country has not been able to recover since.

Unfortunately, Zia started the radicalization of the society. I recall he briefly introduced mandatory Shalwar kameez and Urdu as the medium of instruction. He put the reverse gear on to the nation.

Gen. Zia was the worse thing happened to minorities in Pakistan. The religious freaks took over the constitution made some horrible choices. Took away the freedom of expression, women lost all rights and the population exploded.

I am sure that most people commenting here were not even born when Zia was President. He led the country when Pakistan was being threatened by Soviets from the West and India on the East. His planning and strategy kept the Indians at bay when Rajiv Gandhi and the Indian military had made plans to attack Pakistan in 1987 under the smokescreen of the Brasstacks exercises. No one is a saint, but people should do some research and learn history themselves rather than from political and personal opponents of the man. Similar things are said about Gen. Niazi, but people forget that it was the political leadership that ordered him to surrender.

A dismal era no one wishes to remember

I'm placed in 60-69 bracket. Countries should not be ruled by dictators. The real leaders emerge from within the masses to serve not rule them. Nations blessed with such leaders make progress, earn respect and live with dignity. Dictators don't fall in this catagory.

the fact is no body cares about, Zia, Yahya, Ayub, Musharaff, Nawaz, Imran or any other.. what they care about is electricity, clean drinking water, a shelter and a peaceful life. hope a better survey or questioner next time
