Pakistani photo wins first place in Wiki Loves Earth contest 2015
Zaeem Siddiq's photo from Lower Kachura Lake, Skardu chosen as best international picture for the year 2015.
The Wiki Loves Earth contest, organised by the Wikimedia Foundation, has chosen Zaeem Siddiq's photo from Lower Kachura Lake, a popular tourist destination in Central Karakoram National Park, Skardu, Pakistan as the best international picture for the year 2015.
The global 2015 edition has seen more than 8,500 contestants participating from 26 countries, with over 100,000 photo submissions throughout the month of May.
From Pakistan alone, over 1500 contestants chipped in from across the country to submit more than 11,000 photographs; making it the country with the fourth largest number of submissions and second largest in the number of participants.

The prize for the winner includes a trip to attend the Wikimania 2016 conference in Esino Lario, Italy, with paid travel and accommodation expenses.

It is as well that these places are difficult to access. One should see the lake Saiful Muluk in Kaghan. Since it became relatively accessible, plastic bags, drink cans and other litter has spoiled what used to be a pristine place.

AJK and Northern Areas are full of such heavenly scenes. A journey from Gilgit to Chitral via Punyal along the Ghizar River though Phundar and Shandur had got breathtaking scenes with lakes made by the landslides. This can attract thousands of tourists if we can develop the road and provide motels with basic facilities. There is plenty of trout fish to add to the charm. People are also very humble and helpful with simple life style.

On a side note, how authentic is this competition? Photo from Thailand remind me of one of the desktop background photos. Usually such fall colours are more apparent in cooler weather countries (e.g. Canada) and to my knowledge Thailand is described as tropical and humid.

The photograph taken by Zaeem, is not photo shopped, it is off a beautiful heavenly place where every photograph is always a beauty, and taken by a professional , it is even better.
Pakistanis Northern areas are worth visiting and Skardu is in my opinion the best with the nicest and safest people living in it, second to which are the areas around Gilgit.

It is unfortunate that it is not easy for people of Pakistan cannot easily get visa to travel in India...but I must tell my Pakistani friends that in our vast country there are such beautiful places that one life time is not enough to see them all. Kerala which is also called Gods own country has the western Ghats and the most beautiful beaches and back waters. Beaches of Goa are world famous and visited by western tourists every year ...atleast 700 to 800 charted flights every year. We have snow covered mountains in the Hinaltan range 2000 km. Sahra desert in Rajastan , 8000 km of sea coast and many hill stations like your Mari all over India.
India is a mesmerising and historic place ...Please come and teavel some day. You will also love the different food in different parts of India.

It indeed is very sad that visiting Iskardu itself is a struggle for so many with so less flights and even worse is the shangrila resort that's been shown in the picture. The management refuses to refund and bears no sympathy to tourists or abroad based Pakistanis who wish to revisit their own country. Wish Pakistan Tourism gets revived quickly.

As the biggest tour operator in Congo DRC, I am proud of my Pakistan. How desperate we are to see our country return to peace so that tourists could flock, the way they used to before the emergence of Takfirism, Talibanism.

Pakistan has the ability to be the World's no 1 Tourist Place to Visit. The first picture is proof of that. We must develop PCL (Pakistani Coast Line) which is 1000 miles - it is mostly underdeveloped. We must make 100's of cities on PCL. We must develop all of Pakistan from Gwadar to Pakistan-China Border to Lower Sindh. Develop Pakistan 100x time more than india develops itself. PAKISTAN ZINDABAD
