KARACHI, May 1: Chief Secretary K. B. Rind has said that ‘forced child labour’ is unlawful and that measures are being taken to check the practice.
He appealed to the public to pin-point such cases and identify the culprits so that appropriate action could be taken against them.
The CS made the appeal during a discussion on Eradication of Forced Child Labour is Necessary, organized in connection with May Day by Mohib-i-Watan Naujawan Society here on Thursday.
Mr Rind described illiteracy and ignorance as the root cause of all the social ills creating economic problems and ultimately leading to the crimes ranging from corruption to robbery and even murder.
Recounting the government’s measures aimed at improving literacy rate and ensuring basic facilities, like health and social welfare, the CS said that reforms, especially in education sector, were being introduced.
He said that a scheme was being implemented to create job opportunities for the deserving people.
Mr Rind pointed out that a child welfare plan was also under consideration for which people’s cooperation was required.—PPI
