KARACHI, April 30: Six workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were acquitted on Wednesday in four cases by different additional district and sessions courts.

Judge Sikander Lashari of district West acquitted Ali Nawaz alias Nomi, who was prosecuted for attempting to kill policemen during a shootout on June 28, 1997, within the limits of the Moch Koh police.

The same court acquitted Aleem Uddin in a murder case. The Muttahida worker was booked in 1995 by the Orangi Extension police for killing Mohammed Hanif.

Judge Mohammed Aziz Jamali acquitted Saleem Ansari, prosecuted for committing a robbery in 1999 in North Nazimabad.

The additional district and sessions judge, East, Kausar Sultana, acquitted Nadeem Chitta and Tarqi Sectorwala in a murder case of Zaman Town.

All of them were exonerated from the charges as the prosecution failed to bring on record the incriminating evidence against them.

Meanwhile, the district and session court, South, acquitted Wasim alias Wizi, Wasim alias Pasha and Mohammed Farooq Memon in a murder case.

The three accused, belonging to a student organisation, were tried for killing Mohammed Jameel on March 31, 1996, within the limits of Eidgah police.
