SAHIWAL, April 20: Furniture worth Rs12 million, purchased for middle and primary schools of the district, has been eaten up by termite in a storeroom before it could be supplied to the schools.

Working under the supervision of the district coordination officer, a committee had purchased the furniture from a Kot Addu-based firm. The tables, chairs, benches and cupboards were stored in a room for supply to schools.

EDO (Education) Abida Saleem visited the storeroom only to find out that almost all the furniture had been eaten up by termite.

The firm has been asked to provide quality furniture.

Headmasters and headmistresses of around 170 primary and middle schools have refused to accept direct supply of furniture from the firm.

Citizens have demanded action against the purchase committee and black-listing of the firm that supplied the sub-standard furniture.
