TOBA TEK SINGH, April 20: The district government has levied tax on private educational institutions.

Official sources said here on Sunday that the tax will be recovered with effect from July 1, 2002, for the fiscal year 2002-2003.

The annual tax will be recovered at the following rate.

Primary schools: Urdu medium having less than 100 students Rs1,500; more than 100 students Rs3,000. English medium having less than 100 students Rs2,000; more than 100 students Rs4,000.

Middle schools: Urdu medium having less than 100 students Rs2,000; more than 100 students Rs4,000. English medium having less than 100 students Rs2,500; more than 100 students Rs5,000.

High schools: Urdu medium having less than 100 students Rs3,000; more than 100 students Rs5,000. English medium having less than 100 students Rs3,500; more than 100 students Rs5,000. per year)

Colleges: Urdu/English medium having less than 100 students Rs4,000; more than 100 students Rs7,000.

Internet centre Rs3,000 and computer college Rs10,000.

Meanwhile, a private schools owners association spokesman has condemned the levy of tax on educational institutions.

In a statement on Sunday, the spokesman said the levy of tax by the district government would ‘force’ the owners of private educational institutions to raise fees.
