MUZAFFARABAD, April 20: Three people committed suicide and two others were killed in different incidents in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
Mohammad Irshad, 22, son of Shafi shot himself dead with a pistol, and Ikhlaq Hussain, 35, son of Chirag Deen set himself on fire and was killed in the southern Kotli district.
In Chakswari tehsil of the neighbouring Mirpur district, Zahoor Ahmed, son of Qazi Dilpazir hanged himself to death with a rope. Police said they were investigating into the causes of the incidents.
Meanwhile, Rani Bibi, 16, daughter of Arif was drowned after the violent current of a nullah swept her away in the upper belt of Neelum valley, police said, adding her body could not be recovered so far.
Mohammad Hanif, 35, son of Farid, conductor of a bus (AJK 4155) was killed when the vehicle skidded off the road near Chikar in southwest of Muzaffarabad. Mohammad Hanif, a passenger, was wounded in the accident.
INDIAN SHELLING: A man was wounded in Indian shelling and another sustained serious injuries in a landmine explosion along the Line of Control on Sunday, police sources said.
They said that Indian troops started shelling in the Chakothi sector, some 60 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, at 1:30pm without any provocation.
The shelling continued for three hours; as a result, Mohammad Sajid, son of Mohammad Asghar, was wounded.
The shelling also ignited fire in a shop in Chakothi Bazaar which has already seen much devastation, sources said.
In Abbaspur sector in the southern Poonch district, Mohammad Sajid, son of Faiz Mohammad, was injured, when, while herding cattle he accidentally stepped over a landmine near the LoC in Taroti village. He was admitted to CMH, Rawalakot.
