KARACHI, Dec 5: Unknown assailants shot dead a leading fruit exporter on Rashid Minhas Road on Wednesday morning.

Police said that Syed Shahid Ali, aged 40, owner of Ali International, left his Gulistan-i-Jauhar residence for his Gulshan office.

On his way the victim stopped at a hardware shop located at Al-Ahsan Apartments Block 11, Gulshan-i-Iqbal. At the shop the victim received a call on his mobile phone and left the shop for his car (ADA-310) which was parked in front the shop on the newly constructed service lane.

As the victim was approaching his car, two unknown assailants riding a motorcycle intercepted him and shot him at a point blank range in his head, killing him instantly.

The victim was shifted to the Aga Khan Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

Police said that a day earlier some activists of a political party had came to the victim’s office, Ali International in Block-7 Gulshan-i-Iqbal, for some donation. The victim had refused and told them to get out of the office.

An official of the Aziz Bhatti police station said that the victim’s death could be the result of Tuesday’s incident.

CARJACKINGS: At least eleven vehicles- six cars and five motorcycles- were either hijacked or stolen from different parts of the city on Wednesday, police said.

The cars (ACM-519) Saddar, (ACY-172) Darakshan, (ABQ-135) Tipu Sultan, (ADN-239) Ferozabad, (T-5869) Gulberg and (AC-1175) North Nazimabad were hijacked.

The motorcycles (HDF-1338) Soldier Bazar were stolen while (KAV-0377) Bahadurabad, (KCT-5064) Aram Bagh, (KAV-0993) PIB Colony and (KAG-7755) Gulshan-i-Iqbal were hijacked on Wednesday.

Police claimed to have recovered 15 vehicles from different parts of the city on Wednesday.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in separate road traffic accidents in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Police said that an elderly man died in a hit-and-run accident near Kalapul on Wednesday.

Police said that the victim Manzoor Ahmed, aged 70, was crossing the road when he was hit by an unknown vehicle near the Kalapul bridge. The victim was rushed to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

In another accident, a man died in road traffic accident in Liaquatabad on Wednesday.

Police said that Iftikhar, aged 50, was crushed beneath a speedy truck (LSD-1997) near Markazi Imambargah, Liaquatabad No 10.

Police said that the victim was crossing the road when he fell victim to the speeding truck. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he breathed his last. Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver Gul Zaman and impounded the vehicle.

CRUSHED: A young boy was crushed beneath the train near Baloch Colony on Wednesday while playing near the railtracks. The body sent to the JPMC for postmortem, police said.

INJURED: The wife of a police official was injured while resisting a robbery in the Risala Police Line on Wednesday.

Police said that Zareen Taj, aged 32, was going out of the police line compound when she was intercepted by unknown persons who tried to rob her of jewellery bangles and locket.

The bandits stabbed her repeatedly and escaped when she tried to put up a resistance, police added. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital where she was admitted for treatment. Police said that the victim was still unconscious.

FALLS TO DEATH: An man fell to death from the nine floor of a apartment complex in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Wednesday.

The police said that the victim Mohammad Arif fell from the roof of a apartment complex in Block 11 Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The victim was rushed the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead by the medicolegal officer.
