KARACHI, April 7: Pakistan batsman Naved Latif and fast bowler Mohammad Zahid were banned for selection in the last league match of the Sharjah Cup against Kenya on Tuesday after both were found guilty of breaching the players’ code of conduct.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s spokesman, both Naved and Zahid turned up late for the nets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday.

After a hearing conducted by tour disciplinary committee comprising team manager Haroon Rasheed, skipper Rashid Latif and vice-captain Yousuf Youhana, it was unanimously decided to ban the duo from Tuesday’s match.

Naved had also previously breached disciplinary rules when he arrived late at the ground on the tour of Bangladesh 15 months ago.

Naved played in the quadrangular’s opening match against Zimbabwe while Zahid sat out both the matches (against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka). Now it seems certain the injury-prone speedster from Gaggu Mandi will head home later this week without playing a single match.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are likely to include Misbah-ul-Haq in their lineup for the encounter against Kenya. The 28-year-old batsman has yet to get a game in the tournament despite an outstanding domestic season.

Unbeaten Pakistan’s game against Kenya is only of academic interest since Rashid Latif’s side are already through to Thursday’s final while the Africans are no longer in the running after two straight losses.
