LAHORE, March 27: The Lahore Society of Surgeons of Pakistan (SSP) has announced that it will hold a seminar at the Lahore Press Club to create awareness about breast cancer, gall stones and piles ahead of its two-day biennial international conference beginning in the Pearl Continental on April 5.

The announcement was made by Surgicon International Conference 2003 organizing committee chairman Prof Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, co-chairman Dr Fazal Ali Khan and secretary Dr Zafar Ali Chaudhry at a press conference here on Thursday.

Dr Chaudhry said the conference would hopefully be participated by around 600 surgeons including four from abroad. Due to security reasons, he said, only Prof Manohar Lal Sureshita from Nepal, Prof Ashraf and Prof Abdul Majid from Bangladesh and Prof Gamini Roonatilke from Sri Lanka had confirmed their participation.

He said eminent surgeons would highlight the latest research in the field of

surgery and surgical techniques for the benefit of their fellow surgeons.

Dr Chaudhry said the SSP was working with the sole objective of spreading surgical knowledge and techniques among its members. He said the society had been organizing monthly clinical meetings in big hospitals to critically analyse complicated or rare surgical cases.

As a part of the international conference, he said, the society had organized a free surgical camp in Shakargarh and performed a few surgical procedures besides providing free medicines to patients on March 1.

Later, on March 10, the society arranged a clinical meeting at the King Edward Medical College and discussed clinically important cases as part of the training of surgeons.
