HYDERABAD, Dec 2: Citizen Action Committee for Women Rights, Aurat Foundation at a meeting held here on Sunday decided to launch a campaign to press for earmarking women seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
It was decided that during the first phase, a signature campaign would be launched and meetings will be held with leaders of political parties who will be asked to use their influence for providing adequate representation to women in the legislative assemblies.
The meeting resolved that the women councillors at district, taluka and union council levels will be asked to move resolutions at their forums for granting representation to women at provincial and federal level.
It was also decided that after Eid, seminars will be held in different parts of the province and the teams of Aurat foundation will hold meetings in different districts in furtherance of this objective.
Mr Adam Malik, team programme officer of Aurat Foundation, presided over the meeting which was attended by Safina Javed, Ghaffar Malik, Comrade Ramzan Memon, Ilyas Khokhar, Mahjabeen Pathan and Riaz Sohail.
JSQM: Central committee of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) at a meeting held here on Sunday resolved to continue struggle against the rise of fundamentalism, influx of Afghan refugees and acute shortage of irrigation water in the province.
The acting president of the party, Shafi Karnani presided over the meeting which decided that the central leadership of the JSQM will undertake an exhaustive tour of Larkana and Sukkur divisions to create awareness among the people about the disastrous repercussions of shortage of water.
The meeting also decided to continue struggle for the release of the party chief, Bashir Khan Qureshi, his deputy, Niaz Kalani, president of Jeay Sindh Students Federation, Kehar Ansari, and Munawar Jamali.
The meeting demanded of the government to shelve anti-Sindh projects detrimental to the agriculture sector of the province, provide jobs to local jobless youth, discontinue retrenchment of local employees and acknowledge the rights of Sindh province over its resources.
HOSPITALS: A meeting was held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Zila Nazim Dr. Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman to take stock of the situation prevailing in the government hospitals of the district.
The meeting reviewed the arrangements in hospitals and resolved to complete the incomplete hospital projects and discussed ways and means to hand over incomplete health centres and dispensaries to the private sector.
The meeting also discussed the proposal to set up a kidney centre at Qasimabad Hospital, start the construction of Kohisar Hospital and expansion of Bhittai Hospital.
The meeting decided to finalise the programme in this regard next week keeping in view the availability of funds and the immediate needs.
