PESHAWAR, March 20: Chairperson of Tehreek-i-Musawaat Party, Musarrat Shaheen has rejected the Legal Frame Work Order (LFO) and said that only parliament was the authorised forum to incorporate amendments to 1973 Constitution through two-thirds majority of votes.
Speaking at the “Guest Hour” programme of the Peshawar Press Club here on Thursday, she said that President Musharraf was an individual and lacked public mandate and therefore was not qualified to do amendments in the Constitution. According to her, Musharraf government had shown some positive signs of economic development in its initial period, but the situation had now slipped out of its hands.
She also blamed the present government of promoting the culture of horse-trading the election and said the elected people were not the representatives of the people, because they had reached the parliament by the virtue of their money. Parliament, she said, was of no use, as it never debated the basic issues confronting the country.
She said that her party was a representative of the middle class. Hindrances were being created by her political opponents to harass her so that she could quit politics.
“Whenever I come to my home province of NWFP, there is a lot of security concern, because some groups considered her to overshadow their so-called politics,” said Musarrat Shaheen.
