KARACHI, March 18: The coordination committee of the City District Government Karachi has expressed concern over illegal terminuses of inter-provincial buses and goods transport in residential areas of the city.

It said these terminuses be shifted immediately outside the city as these were creating traffic problems.

A meeting of the committee, presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, observed that in all cities of Pakistan such terminuses have been set up outside the city, but in Karachi these are located in residential areas. Some bus owners have set up these bus terminuses without any recommendation, so a strategy be devised to decide their shifting.

In the meeting, a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan for determining alternative places and evolving a schedule for the shifting of inter-provincial buses and goods transport vehicles outside the city.

The committee has been given one month to present its report.

The members of the committee are: Nazim SITE Town Ameer Nawab, Nazim Lyari Town Abdul Khaliq Juma, Nazim Saddar Town Farooq Memon Faria, Nazim Gulshan-i-Iqbal Abdul Wahab and EDO Revenue Mohammad Hussein Syed.

The meeting deiced to initiate a campaign against encroachments in the city that would be continued for two months. This campaign would be started from Baldia Town and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

It was decided that this campaign will be initiated at town level and all plots allotted for welfare projects, roads and government land would be freed from land-grabbers.

The meeting deiced to merge police forces of the defunct KDA and the KMC in one post and make an officer of DSP rank in charge of the CDGK police.

If anyone violates the city government rules, FIRs would be lodged in the CDGK police station on the pattern of KESC and railways. The meeting also called for necessary legislation in this regard.

The amount of conservancy tax would be distributed among the towns before April 5, the meeting decided.

EDO health was asked to prepare a report about construction of five maternity homes in Lyari Town, one in Shah Faisal Town, one hospital in Gadap and campaign against Hepatitis B in Gadap and Bin Qasim Towns in the next meeting.

SAFARI PARK: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that an advisory committee would be formed to compile recommendations for development and beautification of Safari Park.

Speaking at a ceremony, organized by the Safarian Friends, he said that the city government had included Safari Park in its important projects.

He said that the City government was enjoying patronage and cooperation of the governor, the chief minister and the chief secretary. While the powers of MNAs and MPAs had reduced, the elected representatives of local bodies enjoy more powers who are solving people’s problems at their doorstep.

He said the elected representatives might contact us and point out the problems.—PPI
